Meet HUGO – a little starfish with a big heart and a curious mind.
Through his adventures, Hugo learns many valuable lessons of character, life skills, and ecological alertness — all against the colorful backdrop of a magical underwater world and mystical islands and mountains.
Join Hugo on his journey as he discovers that having the right attitude is the best way to be — and the only way to be truly happy.
Believing that happiness can be learned, feelings can be understood, and that building character based on a positive attitude leads to a happy, content, successful and confident human being, Suzy Liebermann has written this charming series of children’s books to help educate children about their feelings, their attitudes, their choices, and the consequences that follow.
In Hugo, children, parents, and educators will discover a lovable and engaging role model with whom they can identify.
A TRUE LESSON TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN

The Secret to Happiness is the first book in the Hugo Series. Coincidentally it's also the first book I've read of author Suzy Liebermann. I feel that the plot line in this children's book is very well developed for this age group. The illustrations are spot on with vibrant color. Yet at the same time it's not very busy to distract the younger audience. The main character is one that children could easily remember and relate to on their level. Even if your child is too young to understand the message, they can certainly fall in love with the character like other popular children's literary characters. The characteristic that's emphasized in this book is empathy and it's a very important characteristic to instill in your child at a young age. The secret is one you'll have to read the book to find out, yet it's safe to tell you it's the true Secret to Happiness.
These books are super cute and have some educational elements to it.
I read them to my son who is 5 years old and he absolutely loved them.

Thank you for sending the Kingsbury Library a copy of “HUGO THE HAPPY STARFISH”.
Because we are a Primary Years Program International School the book fits perfectly into our curriculum of teaching Character Education.
The story and illustrations are well done and the additions of the list of vocabulary words in the back as well as the activities to go with the story are very useful.
The kids also love the author’s signature – it makes authoring and illustrating a book real!
We really appreciate your thinking of us in this kind way.
Sincerely, Jane S.

I was thrilled to receive a signed copy of “Hugo the Happy Starfish”. In a position that allows me to work closely with teachers and be their guide on the side,
I am ecstatic to have found children's books that enhance our understanding and appreciation
for the PYP Learner Profile and Attitudes.

THE LAST BULLY is a charming anti-bullying story.
Hugo is a little starfish and so it is not surprising that in this story he comes across several bigger fish in the ocean. Sadly, they are bigger fish with the wrong attitude - they're bullies! He forms the Anti-Bully Club and teaches the bullies a valuable lesson about respect.
A great book that teaches children respect for others and that being different is okay.
And don't forget to tell your children that the best way to deal with bullies is to tell someone about it.
